COLLEGE PLANNING STRATEGIES

THE HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC PLAN

Recommended Course of Study by the President’s Council State Universities of Michigan

English - 4 years required of Literature and composition - AP English

Math - 3 years required; 4 years recommended- 1 yr. Algebra, 1 yr. Geometry,
Algebra 2,
Recommend Trig, Pre calculus and/or AP Calculus

Science - 2 years required; 3 years recommended of a laboratory course Biology, Chemistry, Physics
 Recommend 4 years if premed; AP in any or all of the above

Foreign Language - 3 years of the same language strongly recommended

Social Studies - 3 years including 1 year of U.S. History, U.S. Government, and    
1 year of World History
Physical Education/Health - 1 to 2 years; H.S. requirement
Fine and Performing Arts - 2 years. Recommended
Computer Science - 1 year of hands on experience strongly recommended

Krasnow’s suggestions:

Behavioral Science - 1 semester in Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, etc.
Business Education - Typing (Keyboarding) is helpful for using computers
Accounting is helpful for Business majors
Business Law is helpful for everybody

16 to 20 total academic credits plus elective credits comprise an acceptable record (transcript)
